I'm sorry I can't help you out specifically for this but I do want to encourage you to find a second opinion regarding your laptop and fixing the charging port. Be leary if the technician encourages you to pay for an entire motherboard because typically that is not necessary as ports can be replaced with appropriate training and is almost always cheaper than replacing a motherboard.
If indeed it is a dead power port, there's several on ebay for only $7 each and an install shouldn't be more than 2-3 hours of the technician's time. For me to do it, it probably wouldn't cost more than $40-$50. Again all assuming the issue truly is the power jack.
