Post subject:  Beware

We have been notified that there are scam artists targeting people on Larryville. Please be aware of people promising to send a check above the amount of service or product with the request to refund them the difference. The checks will bounce and you will be out the total amount. There was an article about this in the Journal World recently but we did not realize it had reached our little board.

Please read the article and be aware of who you are dealing with before completing a transaction.

Did someone hack into your user profile database?

No hacking is involved in this type of scam. The target is usually someone selling an item, renting a property or offering a service. The scammer contacts the seller by the info provided by the seller and offers a check or money order well over the amount of the actual item or service and tells the person to cash it and send the difference back to the scammer. By the time the seller realizes the original check or money order is no good, the scammer is long gone with the seller's money.
