My irises seem to be done blooming. I need to thin them. Is now the time? Or should I wait until fall? I also have some gladiolas planted close to them that are coming up. I don' want to disturb thoseCan I just cut the irises down now and dig and thin them in the fall when I am digging the gladiolas? Has anyone ever had luck leaving the gladiola bulbs under ground all winter? I usually dig mine, then store in sand in theasement for winter, then replant in spring. Now that I think about it, I wonder if that's even necessary anymore given the warmer winters we have now. Advice? Thanks! |

Yes you can thin your Iris now or in the fall. They will still bloom again even if you replant them now. I never dig Glad balbs, if you plant deep enough they will bloom for several years. In fact the freezing helps force the balb. This is also true of tulips & Crocus. |

The typical Iris blooming cycle is April & May. So no more blooms this year. |
