Caterpillars!

Last year I let the Lunar Moth eat my Datura. They love it and can strip the leaves in a couple of hours.

I love the Lunar Moth.
I keep milkweed for the Monarch Caterpillars to eat.

Well dammit! They have told their friends I guess. I went out this morning and 4 whole Fennel Plants are down to the nubbins as well as the flat leaf Parsley!

I have a pot of Dill they have started on. I looked up the culprit, I think they are the Large Swallow Tail butterflies.

Have any of you ever hatched them in the house?

The parsley eater is most likely the sawllowtail butterfly. Google it to read up.

I saw a big fat green caterpillar last week that reminded me of the one on A Bug's Life. I think it was one of the biggest ones I have ever seen!

So you want to raise them indoors and hatch them out? I think that would be easy enough, since you know which plant they need to eat. Just put some stems of that plant in a vase, cover the top of the vase with saran wrap so they dont fall in and drown, and put the plant and the vase in some kind of cage. Spray those leaves every day or so to provide water for the caterpillars. When they finally make their cocoons, just leave them be until they hatch. Then, you'll have to let them outside (or give them to me for my insect displays...haha!). Good luck!
