We grew up making it a couple different ways. One with Noodles and the other with potatoes.
Noodles - Fix basically like spaghetti. – Boil your noodles (We use elbow), in separate pan brown your hamburger (can add ½ sausage), drain grease, put in jar sauce or make your own. We always added 1 can of stewed tomatoes (with juice), simmer on low heat stirring occasionally. After it’s heated up, drain the noodles and add the hamburger/sauce mixture to your noodles. We usually finish it off, by adding a cup or so of parmesan cheese to the top and baking it until it’s melted. (Can be eaten without the extra oven time, but it’s really YUMMY.)
Potatoes – fix the same sauce, but instead of the noodles, skin and cut potatoes in long slices (cut straight across the top / not down). Boil them with a little salt until their soft, but not mushy. Mix them in the same place as you would the noodles. (We don’t usually do the extra oven cooking with potatoes.)
We heat up a loaf of French bread with garlic and butter OR do the really cheap quick way and toast a slice of bread, add butter and sprinkle on a little garlic powder.
YUMMY! Good luck!
