The deer pic didn't bother me and I really didn't want to see it but come on, you really think it was an appropriate picture?
Get real folks. Theres the monkey house for stuff like that. A dead animal bleeding from the mouth is as offensive to some as bad language is to some.
You knew it would be removed as soon as you posted it.

I think I Know got the exact reaction he intended. While I wouldn't have posted the deer picture myself, I have sons who are hunters, and have many pictures of dead deer, turkey, pheasant, quail, bunnies and so on. Hunting takes skill if done in the right way, and being proud of that skill is okay. Ever hold up a fish when you were a kid for a picture? Same thing.

I was just about to post positive on the positives, but here I am, i didn't check to see if there was a link and i didn't like the deer picture but I am surprised by it's removal. My first reaction was, a sign of my prejudice, a prick at my weary fear, are the new moderators part of some reactionary religious cult. Probably not. My second guess, will we be moderated to a level of do you really want a three year old to see this. And at last, my distrust, did the person remove the picture him/her self. All three are probably wrong. But i am interested in why the picture would be removed. How could it be considered off topic?

I did not remove my post nor did I get a warning of ANY kind! It just vanished!

as for the deer pic, i think that if you are a hunter you are already de-sensitized to that kind of scene, so your immediate reaction wouldn't be negative. but for most other people that are not de-sensitized to that kind of imagery, there will be some sort of negative reaction.

i thought it was gross, but that's because i wasn't raised around hunting or even farms. and i work with animals every day pet sitting, so i'm much more a bleeding heart i guess.

[and i wasn't the one that flagged it either.]

And that would show her what? That animals have the same color blood we do? What would she learn from seeing an image of a dead deer?

Why is this thread in both monkey house and community forum?

So new post go both places also. Makes sense

So a cool thread gets moved to the Monkey House and the YH trash stays on community. Whats wrong with this picture?

My vote is this one: #1 is not probable, and #3 is ruled out because only moderators can remove posts.

Apparently, that's what the mods think we want. I think what we may have here is a failure to communicate!

Gern is brilliant. I'm wondering if Gern thought something along these lines could happen even though it is an off topic thread.

I don't get why the picture was removed or why it is considered that shocking. I see pieces of deer all the time along the highway. That is certainly more graphic than a hunter posting a picture of his kill.

I really wasn't sure if it would or not and actually that provided a bit more motivation for creating this thread.

I have to agree with I know on this one--- where the heck do people think the meat in the grocery store comes from. I have respect for people who hunt for their own food and I suspect that they have a more balanced view about what they put in their bodies because they do so. (By the way, I also respect vegetarians--- meat eater that I am, I would have difficulty with such a choice!)

the deer was offensive to some people and so i removed it. we all understand where meat comes from but do not care to see it on a community forum. there were no warnings issued because it was a judgment call. i am sorry that you did not like the deer pic removal. next time simply put a link with a warning of the type of photo and it can stay.

O what a SLIPPERY slope you are embarking on!!

Did not SOME PEOPLE find scorned signature offensive??? Their signature is a clear and calculated ATTACK on a fellow larryviller and most people know who they are making fun of on a regular basis yet you have choose to IGNORE this fact!

Others who don't know the history just see their signature as cute or JUST A SAYING and are clueless that it is really intened for a fellow user.

Okay, I don't think the link suggestion is unreasonable. Many forums do that particularly for images that may get some in trouble at their workplace if they are allowed internet access. For example, NSFW (not safe for work) is a common tag.

People can choose to click on the link and decide for themselves as to whether they want to view or not. At that point, since the link would contain a warning of its contents, they really wouldn't be able to complain about the offensiveness of it. This would theoretically cut down on the number of posts flagged and Admin/mods could devote their time to other forum matters.

However, IKYKIK could have been PM'd and requested to do it instead of deleting the post. It seems like that would have been a fair thing to do and given him the option to comply or not. I think most people would comply if they have an understanding as to why the request is being made.

I don't think a lot of people realize that doing a link with a warning is an option and that it is pretty simple do. Clockworkowl told me how to label my links with my words appearing when I asked him how he did and it really was a lot easier than it originally looked. I don't think he would mind if I shared his instructions.

Clear and calculated attack? OMG - okay - I will say it again. I like Yo Mama jokes, but many do not, so I chose a NONDESCRIPT, NONSENSE name to attach instead of "Yo Mama". Very simple. Who is this "fellow user" I am attacking? Why hasn't this user come forward? And this history you speak of? Care to elaborate?

Not much I can do to assuage an individual's need for attention, nor can I assist with self-esteem issues a stranger might have at any given moment.

The bottom line is THIS IS A PRIVATELY OWNED FORUM - it is wonderful that admin is asking for input from the community, but they will never make everyone happy, and being upset about that is really not good for one's health. If my benign signature line is so offensive to SOME PEOPLE, put me on your foe's list. See how easy that was?
