| Post subject: | Looking for Info on Dog foods |
I have a 10 week old Boxer puppy. I want to be sure that she gets fed a good diet and am looking for your help! I need opinions and recommendations from real people... not just what I read online. You never know if those testimonials are real or not! Right now it seems that my best choice is Lifes Abundance. What do you all think? |

The first 2 or 3. Don't feed a food that has by product meal. It's mostly undigestible things that carry little to no nutritional value. And see the grain content. If it's corn, or corn gluten meal, those things aren't good either. Most times these things are just used as a "filler". The really good foods have a meat source, such as lamb, chicken, beef, etc. Then they either have a different grain source such as rice, or barley, or no grains at all. Some have vegetables in them, and those are good too. But you need something that satisfies their protein requirements, and their vitamin and calcium requirements. I've had the best luck with the Holistic brands. Now some, such as wellness, gave my dogs diarrhea, and I had to take them off of it. Some foods work for some dogs, and others don't. So put your dogs on the dog food you choose and see what happens. Keep in mind also that you want to wean the dogs from one food to another. Sudden changes sometimes will throw their digestive system all out of wack and they will have diarrhea as a result. Also make sure your pup has lots of chew toys, raw hide bones etc. They will keep his teeth strong and much cleaner, as well as give him something to chew on when she is teething here in about a month or so! I've not seen a dog food with alfalfa in it, but I have horses and whenever the horses drop their grain and alfalfa pellets, the dogs are right there cleaning up the mess. They love the stuff! I forgot to ask where you are getting the Life's Abundance. Is it at the Natural Pet Food store? I'm always keeping an eye out for good dog foods. Thanks!! |

The Purina Feed store on 6th street has a great selection of quality dog food. I recommend going. |
